An Overview of Cognitive Processes

What these are and why they are useful

There are eight Jungian function-attitudes or Cognitive Processes:

  • Information Gathering (Perceiving) Functions
  • Extraverted Sensing (Se) and Introverted Sensing (Si)
  • Extraverted Intuiting (Ne) and Introverted Intuiting (Ni)
  • Decision Making (Judging) Functions
  • Extraverted Thinking (Te) and Introverted Thinking (Ti)
  • Extraverted Feeling (Fe) and Introverted Feeling (Fi)

We all can potentially access all eight functions. The MBTI was designed to assess which functions we naturally prefer to use.
